‘The Featherstone Primary School Champion Award Scheme,’ which is part of our ‘Enrichment’ Programme, has recently re-started in school, for the 9th year! The children have loved going to their newly-chosen clubs and I’m sure that they will continue to enjoy everything that Enrichment has to offer this next year.
What is Enrichment?
As a reminder, and for parents who are new to the school, Enrichment is a programme, similar to how the Duke of Edinburgh Award works, where children choose a variety of exciting clubs to take part in. They ‘bank’ the hours they spend taking part in these clubs and work towards the next award category. There are seven award categories, with one award being worked towards each year. Each award becomes more challenging to achieve as it requires more hours of volunteering, skills or physical exercise.
When and how will Enrichment happen?
Enrichment takes place each Friday afternoon, for 30mins. Your child will go to the club they’ve chosen with a mixture of other children from different classes and year groups.
What are the Enrichment Awards available?
Because Enrichment is something that children continue to enjoy and benefit from, we are once again offering children the opportunity to have their out-of-school Enrichment recognised alongside what they complete in school. This is so they can strive to achieve the highest possible award that they’d like to aim for.

Enrichment at home
We want children to do enriching things outside of school! In school, we offer enough enrichment hours for all children to pass the award, if they are working towards Wood, Tin or Copper (providing that they don’t lose too much enrichment time in school through any poor behaviour choices or absences). However, for Bronze and above, they need to do some things outside of school too. This means this letter/form is essential!
Also, as you can see, children who, with their parents’ help, want to go ‘above and beyond’ to aim to be an ‘Enrichment Champion,’ can do so. Below, there are some ideas for how your child can work at home towards their next award.
Gaining the award
In school, your child will undertake a range of different activities on a Friday afternoon for 30 minutes. We will keep track of the amount of time that your child participates in enrichment during school time, and in July 2027, the in-school and out-of-school hours will be added up and your child will be awarded the appropriate award: Pass, Pass Plus, Merit or Distinction. Children who pass Stage One: Wood will proceed to Stage Two: Tin; children who pass their second Tin Stage will move onto Stage Three: Copper; and so on. Children who do not reach the required minimum hours will re-try the award the following year. So, great attendance is vital!
